How to Check if Your WiFi Network is on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz Band

Some WUUK Wireless devices support 2.4 GHz WiFi only. This is why it's important to know which frequency band your WiFi network is on, so you can make sure your devices are connected to the appropriate band for optimal performance. In this article, we'll explore some simple ways to find out whether your network is on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band.

Method 1: Check your router's documentation

The easiest and most reliable way to determine whether your network is on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band is to check your router's documentation. Your router's user manual or spec sheet will usually specify which band it uses.
 

Method 2: Check your WiFi network properties on a device

Another way to find out is to check the properties of your WiFi network on a device that's connected to it.

Here's how to do it on a Windows PC:

  1. Click on the WiFi icon in the system tray.
  2. Right-click on the network you're connected to and select "Properties".
  3. Look for the "Frequency" field in the list of properties. It should say either "2.4 GHz" or "5 GHz".

Here's how to do it on a Mac:

  1. Click on the WiFi icon in the menu bar.
  2. Hold down the Option key and click on the network you're connected to.
  3. Look for the "Channel" field in the list of properties. If the channel number is between 1 and 14, you're on the 2.4 GHz band. If it's between 36 and 165, you're on the 5 GHz band.

Method 3: Use a WiFi analyzer app

You can also use a WiFi analyzer app on your smartphone or tablet to determine which band your network is on. WiFi analyzer apps are available for both Android and iOS devices. Here's how to use one:
  1. Download a WiFi analyzer app from your app store.
  2. Open the app and look for a screen that shows your network's details.
  3. Look for the "Channel" field. If the channel number is between 1 and 14, you're on the 2.4 GHz band. If it's between 36 and 165, you're on the 5 GHz band.

Method 4: For Android Phones - Check the Frequency Band in the Wi-Fi Setting

If you have an Android phone, you can confirm whether the network is 2.4G or 5G through the Wi-Fi frequency band. The steps are as follows.
  1. Use your Android phone to connect to the Wi-Fi network.
  2. Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Select the connected network to see the Wi-Fi details. Note: Different Android phones might have different settings.
