If the temperature is below -4°F (-20°C), the lithium-ion battery’s chemistry activity would be reduced, resulting in lower battery levels and fast-draining in the battery; however WUUK doorbell can still remain in operation status in such conditions.
As a result, at certain temperatures, the batteries in your WUUK device may run out of power faster than expected and may need to be recharged more often. We generally see users report a 1% - 4% dropping rate on a daily basis in cold weather (below 3°C). When the weather becomes warmer, battery life will resume to normal times.
If the temperature is lower than 32°F (0°C), in order to protect the battery, the WUUK doorbell will switch off battery charging (including USB and AC) automatically to protect the battery life.
Even though it is wired for AC power, WUUK's battery-powered devices are running off the batteries, not off of the external power source, and the external power resources are used to charge the battery. So even if the WUUK Doorbell is wired, if the internal battery is seeing fast drainage, the external wires cannot help much if it is due to cold weather.
The external power sources are used to recharge the batteries and cannot directly power the device. If the battery is too cold when the temperature drops below 0°C, the battery will stop accepting the external charge and may run out of power, as the firmware will keep it from charging in order to avoid damaging the battery.
All battery-powered devices may encounter the same issue during cold weather, so for the areas that generally see a winter temperature below 32°F, a non-battery device may work better. We hope this helps our users when select products for protecting your home and properties.
What to do when it gets cold
- Bring your device inside: When it gets cold and your device's battery runs out, bring your entire device inside and charge the battery with a USB cord. This will allow your device to warm up while the battery charges.
- Make sure your battery is charged to 100%: When charging your battery, be sure that it reaches 100% before your remount the device. While the battery still won't be as effective as when the temperatures are warmer, making sure that the battery is at 100% will allow your device to work as long as possible.
- Monitor your charge and the temperature: As long as the temperature hovers around the points listed above, you may have issues with the battery charge. Therefore it's important to constantly monitor your battery life when it gets cold to make sure your device is always working.
